My husband & I own a small, well established independent insurance agent in Raleigh, NC. we would like to hire a licensed CSR/agent to work in our business, but have no idea what the going pay rate is in our area. Any ideas or insight would be much appreciated!!
Agent pay depends on the company and if you plan to pay a base salary + commission or strictly salary. I work for one of the larger insurance companies in the country and they pay for me to be licensed in all states, pay for my continuing education, continued training, etc. I make $32/k per year base salary.
Although Mbr's response is very precise, I am not sure every situation is the same. It would depend on a few things. what size book of business will they be servicing? will you also expect them to produce? are you looking for an experienced person to come in and remedy a current problem (if your problem is too much business to handle that's a nice problem to have)? or are you looking for an inexperienced person to handle the menial jobs so you can spend more time selling?
Also, the most important thing is what the max you are willing to spend to get another body in the door. An inexperienced person who is only answering phones and processing paper, you may only want to pay a little better than minimum wage whereas a person with vast experience you may want to pay quite a bit more.
